HOW DOES LASER HAIR REMOVAL WORK?

Soprano Ice Platinum is an advanced technology for laser hair removal. It is a type of diode laser that uses three wavelengths of light to target the hair follicles, providing safe and effective hair reduction for all skin types.

Laser hair removal sessions with Soprano Ice Platinum send waves of safe and effective laser energy deep down into your hair follicles. As those follicles heat up, their natural growth cycle is impacted. It takes a couple weeks, but those targeted hairs do eventually shed away on their own.

The next time hair grows back it’s finer, thinner, and lighter. With each subsequent treatment, less and less hair continues to grow back until eventually, hair stops growing back at all. Laser hair removal can drastically reduce hair growth in almost all areas, including your legs, arms, underarms, stomach, back, and neck, to name a few.

How does laser work

AM I A CANDIDATE FOR LASER HAIR REMOVAL?

Because the Soprano Ice Platinum is so advanced, even if you weren’t a candidate for laser hair removal before, you certainly could be now. It’s still true that laser hair removal is most effective if you have lighter skin and darker hair.

Treatments with Soprano Ice Platinum may also work if you have darker skin or lighter hair. The best way to know if laser hair removal is right for you is to come into Emerald Lashes for a consultation.

HOW MANY LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENTS DO I NEED?

It depends, although most men and women need a series of six to eight treatments, each spaced about four to eight weeks apart, for optimal results. Although laser hair removal is permanent, in some cases, it’s possible to have new hair growth.

This is most common during periods of hormonal fluctuations, particularly around pregnancy. If you ever have new hair grow in the treated area again, you can always come back to Emerald Lashes for touch-up treatments as needed.

IS LASER HAIR REMOVAL PAINFUL?

It’s normal to feel some slight discomfort, such as in sensitive areas (like your underarms), but you shouldn’t be in pain. Most men and women explain that laser hair removal feels like tiny rubber bands flicking your skin.

One of the main benefits of Soprano Ice Platinum is that it uses a gradual heating process to deliver the laser energy, which is more comfortable than traditional laser hair removal methods. The cooling technology also ensures that the skin is kept cool during the treatment, minimizing any discomfort or potential side effects.

Pre – Treatment Instructions

Laser Hair Removal
  • For best results, make sure to shave your treatment area 12-24 hours before your laser hair removal appointment. This is important because it allows the laser to penetrate the hair follicle without interference from longer hairs on your skin’s surface. If it is your first time, leave a small patch of hair so that your specialist can exam it. (Your Laser Artist will shave it down before beginning the treatment!)
  • It’s also important that when you come in, your treatment area is clean and free of makeup, lotions, deodorant, and any other ointments or topical products. They will burn.
  • Any skin darkening habits, from casual sun exposure to fake tanning, can compromise the effectiveness of the laser treatment. Try to make sure that your skin is at its natural color, and avoid unprotected sun exposure, tanning lotions, tanning beds, tanning sprays, and tanning solutions for at least 2 to 4 weeks before and after your treatment.
  • Avoid plucking or waxing the area you plan to have treated for at least 4 weeks prior to your treatment. Laser hair removal targets hair follicles, so you need to leave them intact for the procedure to be effective.
  • For 3 days before and after your treatment, please avoid iron pills over 65 mg.
  • For 2 weeks prior to your treatment, avoid antibiotics, tretinoin/Retin-A, Aspirin, and any blood-thinning medications.
  • You cannot do laser hair removal if you’ve taken oral isotretinoin (Accutane) or immunosuppressants in the last 6 months.
  • Clients using ANTICOAGULANTS can not have LHR.
  • If you have or had cold sores or genital herpes, start taking antiviral two days prior to treatment and three days following to decrease outbreak risk.
  • DO NOT have treatment over tattoos (may scar/fade) or fillers such as Juvederm.
  • DO NOT have this done if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you have recently had fillers, it is best to wait at least two weeks before getting laser hair removal treatment. This allows the filler to settle properly and reduces the risk of any complications. It’s also important to inform your laser technician of any recent cosmetic procedures you have had, including fillers. This will help to assess your skin’s condition and make any necessary adjustments to the laser settings to ensure safe and effective treatment.
  • Wear loose fitting clothes on the treatment day. The hair follicles often retain heat from the laser for a few days after the laser hair removal treatment. Wear loose-fitting clothes during that time to avoid friction and skin irritation.

Post – Treatment Care Instructions

A bit of redness and irritation is normal after laser hair removal. To guarantee speedy, easy recovery, make sure to follow these aftercare practices.

  • Immediately after your treatment, redness & bumps at the treatment area are common; these may last up to 2 hours or longer. It is normal for the treated area to feel like a sunburn for a few hours. You should use a cold compress if the sensitivity continues (10 min on, 10 min off), aloe vera gel or skin-soothing lotions. If there is any crusting, apply an antibiotic cream. Darker pigmented skin may have more discomfort than lighter skin & may persist longer.
  • The treated area may be washed gently with a mild soap. Skin should be patted dry & not rubbed during the first 48 hours.
  • Avoid any intense skin-renewing or exfoliating facial treatments, including microdermabrasion and chemical peels for at least 2 weeks before and after your laser treatment, if you had face laser hair removal.
  • Avoid all unprotected sun exposure. Wear sun-protective clothing or sunscreen when going outdoors in the daytime.
  • Avoid sweating, intense exercise, or deodorant use for at least 24 hours after your treatment.
  • Avoid swimming pools as they contain chlorine, while lakes, rivers, and the sea harbor bacteria and algae that can irritate the skin. Wait at least 48 hours (or longer) before going for a swim.
  • Remember, redness may turn brown if exposed to the sun. You must apply Sunblock daily to treated areas, especially facial areas with a broad spectrum minimum SPF 30 or higher(preferably a mineral sunscreen) for 3-4 weeks after treatment. Reapply the SPF every 2-3 hours. Tanning after treatment sessions may enhance melanin regeneration, which may result in hyperpigmentation or other side effects.
  • For 24-72 hours after your treatment, avoid jacuzzis, saunas, steam rooms, or hot showers.
  • We normally recommend you wait ten days after your laser hair removal treatment before shaving again, to avoid irritation.
  • Do not pick/scratch/wax/thread/tweeze the area. Avoid picking or scratching the treated skin.
  • Do not use any other hair removal methods or products, other than shaving, on the treated area during the course of your laser treatments, as it will prevent you from achieving the best results.
  • If you experience itching in the area (common as the skin heals), apply over the counter topical 1% hydrocortisone cream and/or take an antihistamine (Claritin, Benadryl).
  • Do Not Apply Makeup or Other Cosmetics: Avoid applying any makeup or other cosmetics to the treated area for at least 24 hours following the treatment.
  • Attend Follow-Up Appointments: Depending on the area treated and the individual, multiple laser hair removal sessions may be required. Attend all scheduled follow-up appointments to ensure optimal results. Follow up treatment should not be closer together than 6 weeks; unless careful consideration is made.

Please note: Anywhere from 10-20 days after the treatment, shedding of the hair may occur and this may appear as new hair growth. Which is not new hair growth, but it’s dead hair forcing and pushing its way out of the follicle. This is normal and will fall out quickly. In fact, moisturizer will help the dead hair exfoliate from the follicle, so use moisturizer frequently and freely on the treated area.

Laser hair removal is generally safe and effective for most people. However, there are some contraindications, or situations where laser hair removal may not be appropriate or may need to be postponed. Some of the contraindications for laser hair removal include:

  1. Pregnancy: Women who are pregnant should avoid laser hair removal due to the potential risk to the developing fetus.
  2. Cancer, in particularly skin cancer.
  3. Use of photo-sensitising medications/herbs (antibiotics such as quinolones or cyclines derivatives) and hormonal medications.
  4. Diseases which may be stimulated by light (ex. epilepsy).
  5. Diabetes (insulin dependent).
  6. Fragile and dry skin.
  7. Active infection of herpes simplex in the treatment area.
  8. Hormonal disorders (that are stimulated under intense light).
  9. Certain medications: Some medications, such as isotretinoin (Accutane), can make the skin more sensitive to light and increase the risk of complications with laser hair removal.
  10. You are on a specific regime of vitamin A and/or Carotene. It is important to stop using dietary supplements at least 2 months before any permanent hair removal treatment.
  11. History of haemorrhaging or excessive bleeding (ex. urticaria).
  12. Poor blood circulation (heavy legs syndrome).
  13. Skin conditions: People with certain skin conditions, such as psoriasis, eczema, or active skin infections, may need to avoid laser hair removal or wait until the condition has resolved.
  14. Recent tanned or sunburned skin: Laser hair removal should not be performed on skin that is sunburned or recently tanned, as this can increase the risk of skin damage.
  15. History of keloids or abnormal scarring: People with a history of keloids or abnormal scarring may be at increased risk of scarring with laser hair removal.
  16. Recent use of topical products: Some topical products, such as retinoids or alpha hydroxy acids, can increase skin sensitivity and may need to be avoided for a period of time before and after laser hair removal.
  17. Tattoos or permanent makeup: Laser hair removal should not be performed on areas with tattoos or permanent makeup, as this can cause damage to the pigment.

It is important to consult with a qualified and experienced provider to determine whether laser hair removal is appropriate for you and to discuss any potential risks or complications.
